JUNE 2008

I have found the perfect story... for a 'Thank You' for answering the
RAPS Sheet Survey. I am now in the process of preparing it for
internet delivery and I have the survey done so the parts are coming
together.

And I have a sample for you ... the first sentence here:
"Of the older English Universities many stories are told of bizarre
happenings,--of duels, raggings, suicides and such like--in olden
times; but this is one, however, that deals with the phantom of a dog
and murder."

It is an easy story to follow and tell in so many ways. Not a lot of
gore but ... mystery!

Update on Videos

As of this writing the videos I have put on youtube.com/brotherbeno
have had 514 views with 33 videos up. Joined in Feb.
I have found another site called Godtube.com and I joined and have 5
videos up, joined June 1st, and have 588 views as of this writing
(7:40 am June 21th) I choose a little more family style videos for Godtube.com.
Also the videos I put on youtube in the beginning I can not redo as I did not
have room to store and process everything I have on my computer.

Note: the most popular videos to date on youtube 'Story Jam I' (the
one min stories part one) with 54 views and 'Waltzing with Bears'
on Godtube with 83 views

If you see yourself on youtube or Godtube you can email a link to
yourself or family and even put it on your website by embedding it.

And the results are in...

Well not yet as this years board elections are held in August (as
they are every year for one half of the board) and the following up
for elections and there nominees

Slate of nominees:

Asst Director/Events Coordinator - Tim Manson
Asst Events Coordinator - Jim Stigall

Also Please note that there is no JULY 3rd meeting at Kingwood Manor
but the JULY 12th meeting in Gladstone will be held.

Now for a bit of fun stuff.

Have no proof but it makes good story.

The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the
water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things
used to be. Here are some facts about the1500s:

These are interesting...

Most people got married in June because they took their yearly
bath in May, and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they
were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to
hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when
getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of
the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the
other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of
all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually
lose someone in it. Hence the saying, Don't throw the baby out with
the Bath water..

Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood
underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the
cats and other small animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it
rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and
fall off the roof. Hence the saying . It's raining cats and dogs.

There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house..
This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other
droppings could mess up your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big
posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's
how canopy beds came into existence.

The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than
dirt. Hence the saying, Dirt poor. The wealthy had slate floors that
would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh
(straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on,
they added more thresh until, when you opened the door, it would all
start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entrance
way. Hence the saying a thresh hold.

(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)
